Mix-ups are often the reason for poisoning. Children under the age of 5 are affected by poisoning particularly often.
Preventing poisoning
Take simple measures to help prevent poisoning
- Store chemicals and medicines in their original packaging; never transfer into drinking bottles or other containers, not even when labeled accordingly.
- Do not take chemicals home from work. Lock chemicals and medicines out of the reach of children.
- Observe instructions and hazard symbols. Check label before use to avoid confusion.
- Do not take medication in front of children (risk of imitation).
- Dispose of unused chemicals and medicines at least once a year.
- Never leave tobacco products and alcohol unattended.
- Do not place any poisonous plants in the surrounding area.
- Check heating systems with fossil fuels regularly and ventilate well if there is an open fire (risk of CO poisoning)
Is my plant poisonous?
- Do you know the names of your house- and gardenplants?
- Find out which plants are harmless and which are not.
