Preventing poisoning

Mix-ups are often the reason for poisoning. Children under the age of 5 are affected by poisoning particularly often.

Take simple measures to help prevent poisoning

  • Store chemicals and medicines in their original packaging; never transfer into drinking bottles or other containers, not even when labeled accordingly.
  • Do not take chemicals home from work. Lock chemicals and medicines out of the reach of children.
  • Observe instructions and hazard symbols. Check label before use to avoid confusion.
  • Do not take medication in front of children (risk of imitation).
  • Dispose of unused chemicals and medicines at least once a year.
  • Never leave tobacco products and alcohol unattended.
  • Do not place any poisonous plants in the surrounding area.
  • Check heating systems with fossil fuels regularly and ventilate well if there is an open fire (risk of CO poisoning)
